FAQ

Audio and cutting

What format should I send my vinyl masters in?

Zipped WAV files at 24 bit/44.1kHz, sent by WeTransfer or Dropbox, with a tracklist showing timings and side splits. You can also supply your own lacquers.

How much music fits on each side?

As a guide, per side: 12″ at 33rpm, 19 minutes; 12″ at 45rpm, 15 minutes; 10″ at 33rpm, 14 minutes; 10″ at 45rpm, 10 minutes; 7″ at 45rpm, 5 minutes. If your sides run longer, talk to us before cutting.

Is mastering included?

No. Our prices include cutting from vinyl masters you supply. If you need mastering, or would prefer cutting with a UK engineer, we can arrange it and quote it separately.

Can I have a message in the runout groove?

Yes. Let us know before the record is cut.

What should I send for a CD?

A DDP file with an MD5 checksum, or a Red Book CD-R with a tracklist.

Test pressings

Will I get test pressings?

Yes, 5 copies. The full run can’t start until you approve them.

What should I check on them?

Listen to both sides all the way through and check the sound, track order and which side is which. Checking and approving them is your responsibility. Changing levels or EQ at this stage means a new cut, at extra cost.

Artwork

How do I supply artwork?

We’ll send you templates for your sleeve and labels. Send back print-ready PDFs in CMYK at 300dpi, with bleed and fonts embedded.

Orders and delivery

What’s the minimum run?

200 copies.

What’s included in your prices?

Prices are + VAT and include UK delivery. Shrink-wrap and barcodes are optional extras. For anything not on the price list, send us the details for an itemised quote.

How long does it take?

Usually around 4 weeks to test pressings, then around 8 weeks after you approve them. Plant schedules vary, so these times aren’t guaranteed. Tell us your release date early and we’ll let you know what’s realistic.

Does coloured vinyl sound different?

It can be a little noisier than black, mostly in quiet passages and at the start and end of a side. Colours can’t be matched exactly to a Pantone reference.

Do I need a licence to press my record?

Usually, yes. Before pressing you’ll need an MCPS licence from PRS for Music, or evidence that you’ve contacted them about one.

Planning a release?

Tell us the format, quantity and when you need it. We’ll reply with a quote and options.
